Right! Since last week I've just been plotting out how I want my magazine supplement to look and it's tone of voice and content. To do this I brought lots and lots of magazines.

I had decided to have several sections in the magazine. As much as possible I want it to look like a real publication so I want to include things like adverts etc but I'm going to create all my own ads.

I took one at random and counted all the adverts in it just to get an idea of how many to put in my magazine. I was quite suprised the whole magazine was just under 40% adverts! Thats quite a lot. In total there were 42 pages of magazine content (articles, photographs etc) and 26 pages of advertising.

I have made a really rough mock up of my magazine. it's just so I can see how the layout will flow and where to put things. I have 36 pages (including back and front cover) and only 9 pages advertising. Which lead me to producing the content and deciding on a design direction...

The idea at first was to make something for the readers of The Sunday Times. However as the project has progressed the content has sort of made me think I'm not aiming this at the right people.
The Sunday Times comes with three supplements. Culture - A television and radio guide with reviews. The Sunday times magazine - glossy interviews, photography, politics and Style which is fashion, women, food and advice.

Basically they have it all. I was designing something they didn't need. After this I thought about what they are missing - Something specifically for young people. I think it's a good incentive to get younger people to start reading the papers. Especially recently I think there has been a new market opening up with things like Vice magazine & Platform.com

So where I'm at now... I've decided on my content. The adverts are probably the biggest amount of work because I have 9 of them to do. After that I have three pages worth of ; book extract, food, interview and style. So far I have completed Style and Interview. So the next thing to do is the adverts I think!

As with a lot of magazines, there is of course a lot of written content which is what I'm struggling with. I just want to get down to designing but I suppose i've got to get the boring bith over with. I'm also a bit worried because I'm not exactly a type expert. Oh well... We'll see!
